TRANSNZOIA INCOMING GOVERNOR PHILEMON SAMOEI SPECIAL MESSAGE TO THE PEOPLE OF TRANSNZOIA
It is with great humility and honor that you have chosen to be part of my socio-political movement which is composed of men and women of integrity&substance. Men and women who have resolved to drop cheap, divisive politics so as to focus mainly on transformative agenda(s) for the people of TNC. Many of my supporters represent a diverse cosmopolitan community residing in the 25 wards of TNC.
First things first. Let me take this opportunity to advice and caution ourselves about the gravity of this COVID19 Pandemic. Ladies and gentlemen, this threat is real. Simply take the stipulated precautionary measures as directed by the Ministry of Health. Europe and America including Latin America is seriously bleeding from this pandemic. The economy in those parts of the world is grinding downwards. The situation there is dire.
One of my good friends today reminded me of the ‘Falcon tale; that once we are through with this Pandemic, there will be NO return to normal. All of us must accept this reality that it is near impossible to return to normal even after the pandemic season is over. A new world order is already setting in. THE NEW NORMAL will come with its fair share of challenges and cannot be addressed with the old tools of trade as it were.
Nonetheless, this means we must move out of our comfort zones, take on all our fears and exploit our potentials to the maximum in the new world order. The people of TransNzoia at this point in time must have come to terms with the reality on how our local authorities are ill-prepared in terms of management of disasters (Environmental and disease) such as the C19 pandemic. In case of further escalation of the pandemic, is our County well prepared? Your answer is as good as mine. I can assure you it’s going to be catastrophic, same as what Equador is currently going through. My personal view is that a month ago we were at ZERO contingency /disaster preparedness level. I now see politicians with branded plastic jericans and sanitizers trying to play their political games with gullible citizens. I must be honest with myself. I don’t practice those kind of silly games in the name of assisting the people. Those are mere PR Gimmicks which I don’t subscribe to. What am trying to say here is that there is more than meets the eye regarding our health system and economic infrastructure. At County and national levels, we know the type of society Kenya is made of. ‘A reckless society’, a society that is ignorant of the fact that even a simple night curfew that is meant to help all of us curb the spread of the killer disease is becoming a challenge to many. Let’s support the President’s call through the MOH before it’s too late. Am aware of Counties pushing for fund disbursement to fight the C19 through their COG. I hope this money will be utilized properly and not embezzled.
With the heavy rains pounding many parts of the Country, I doubt if our County has capacity to manage flood related challenges. River Sabwani will definitely burst its banks and wreak havoc at Namanjala/Maridadi areas in the coming weeks. What long term plans do we have in place? Again, the dishonest political class will come up with all manner of stories and excuses.
As we seek to address the challenges, I take pride in our unity of diversity (especially members of this group) and together we look forward to building a new TransNzoia. Our main focus is to enlighten and educate ourselves and others on the need of electing leaders on the basis of integrity as we approach the general elections of 2022. Even as I offer my candidature for the Governor’s seat, we must all rise above petty politics and focus on reclaiming our past glory. The choice is simply yours.
Asanteni Sana and stay safe!
